handphone issue (part II)

In today's The Star newspaper, the ministry of education again stressed that they will stick to their decision to lift the ban of handphones in schools.

Like many other policies, I believe MOE will change their mind one day. Wait till we see headlines on major newspapers, perhaps something like misusing mms clips to humiliate/againts teachers or other students (reminds me of squatgate), parents complaining about mobile phone and service providers coming in and out the schools (like workbook sellers), statistic of missing handphones in schools in Malaysia per year.

It is definitely not a wise move by the MOE. They are indirectly creating more problems to teachers. Now teachers have to ensure students' phone etiquette, theft or missing handphones, etc. Even students are prone to greater peer pressure now.

Good for researchers though. Now they have good research problems for their theses writing or research projects.

2 drop shot(s):

  1. Yeah, I am totally against the idea from MOE. As a mom, sure I want my sons to be connected with me. But we have to think of the bigger picture and the implications, right? The reasons they gave are lame, lame, lame. Cheaper phones? Where got cheap if we consider the lesser income groups. Safety of the children? I see it as a shift in the parents' responsibilities, they can let their kids roam all they want with the false idea that they are safe just because they are connected with just a few buttons away. *sigh* The motive behind this is to increase the revenue of the service providers, I would guess. Who cares if our future generation are addicted to sms votings, popularity contests etc etc.

    Hi Lilian,
    You are right. It seems that MOE is indirectly trying to shift the problem in schools back to parents. If the children are running away from schools' etc, parents are to be blamed for not keeping track with their own children.

    Talking about sms voting, perhaps we are going to see more participation this year since students can vote on full time basis already?
